Situation
The village of Buis les Baronnies
Buis les baronnies, village with more than 2300 inhabitants sheltered behind the Mont Ventoux, offers numerous of small business and all neighbourhood services (Post Office, banks, doctors, drugstore, dentists, taxis...).
It profits from an exceptional microclimate, at an average altitude of 450 m and presents, because of its exceptional situation flora (orchid, thyme, lavender and other wildflowers) and fauna (deer, chamois, boars, raptors, insects) of great diversity.
The agricultural production in the country is focused on the arboriculture : b]olive (Nyons AOC) apricot (orangé from Provence), plum, but also on viticulture (Coteaux des baronnies), the lavender and the aromatic plants, including the linden, emblem of the country. There are very passionate people that can be also found in the woods of oaks, or in a small plantation, from December to February, with their dogs looking for the rabasse (la truffles ).
There aren't as many silkworm rearers as there were before in the region, and the flocks, if they are provided, are far less in number. The numbers of farms is constantly decreasing, at the risk of losing their know-how. Don't hesitate to come and experience the warm welcome of the rural world in the Gîte du Saint Julien !
